Texbiker.net links to a fun article in the Houston Chronicle about the colorful jerseys worn by the teams in the MS150 from Houston to Austin. Apparently, your team had better have sharp jerseys, or it may face a backlash by riders next year. The article, in turn, links to a gallery of jersey designs for the MS150 teams.
A cycling video worth watching
When I took the classroom part of the Road I course, we watched a video explaining how to position yourself in lanes when riding in traffic. Nowadays, everything is available online, and I found a similar video on YouTube. It’s not exactly the same as the one we saw in class, but some of the scenes are, and it uses some of the same certified league instructors for demonstration.
If you poke around in YouTube and other places, you’re likely to find other worthwhile instructional videos. As a lifelong rider in the right lane, some of this stuff was eye opening for me. But then, I’m still a noob.
While we’re on the subject of helmets…
What’s the difference between a road helmet and a mountain bike helmet? It appears that most mountain bike helmets have visors, either fixed or detachable. Here were have two helmets by the same company. If you unsnap the visor from the so-called mountain bike helmet, you’ll have something that closely resembles the road helmet.
Two helmets by Giro. Mountain on left, road on right.
So are things going on with the mountain helmet besides the visor that aren’t obvious? Or is this just a marketing ploy? Or, are visors really that important in mountain biking?
