My apologies to George Clinton. But I’ve been overcome with a deep funk in the past two days, and it’s not good for my biking.
There’s no good reason for it. The weather couldn’t be better. We even turned off our air conditioning yesterday for the first time all summer. Work is going reasonably well — at least there are no crises to deal with. On the domestic scene, all is okay — a little extra paperwork details to attend to, and we’re tearing our hair out over a computer problem. None of these should affect my biking.
But something is. I fully intended to ride when I got home today. Never did. Something else always seemed to come up, and next thing I knew, it was 7 o’clock, and daylight was running out.
Recently, my wife and I saw “Gone With the Wind” on the big screen in an old restored movie palace. I feel a bit like Scarlet O’Hara: “Fiddle-dee-dee. Tomorrow is another day.”
A biking day.
Is this a general funk or a bicycling funk?
I don’t know how much total riding but I wouldn’t expect you to be over training. But over training will do it.
I ride my bicyle almost everyday. From time to time I know that I need a mental break from it. I take a few days off and before long I am anxious to get back on it.
Do you x-train? Mixing things up also helps.
I know the feeling, although I usually get it in the heart of trainer season (Jan-Feb). Motivation is just lacking.
I think I agree with Red – get away from it for a few days. Maybe go with Mrs. Noob on some long walks or hikes. Don’t feel guilty about it, either. You’re training for le Tour, you’re getting fitter and enjoying it!
Whoops – I meant to say you’re not training for le Tour, or course.
If that changes, let me know. 🙂
I am not sure how to do this but, I have enjoyed your blog immensely during the summer while we are about the same age, I have been riding for a while and you being in Texas was as close to home as I could get…..till now.
I hope I am not out of line in suggesting a North Texas blog to you to check out:

He is one of my riding buddies and I have been enjoying his new blog. Please check him out.
Thanks for the tip, Pearl. I’ve given it a quick look, and I like what I see. I’ll be commenting on his blog in the near future when I have a bit more time.
“we’re gonna turn this mother around…”
I hate the funk too! Keep peddling.
